FORECAST ANALYSIS AND EFFECTS

The system's circulation has rapidly improved and forecast models were too slow to catch up. The Philippine landmass must have hindered its development earlier in the forecast. DODONG's circulation covers the entire Luzon area and almost half of the entire South China Sea. Deteriorating weather condition is expected tonight particularly in areas under the storm's signal. As the system tracks further into the South China Sea, it is expected to affect mostly the western sections of Luzon from Western Ilocos down to Western La Union, Bataan and Zambales. Heavy rains is expected along these areas and winds of minimal Tropical Depression strength (at least 55 kph) shall occur. Please be alert against flashfloods and landslides. Moderate to rough sea waves are expected along the western seaboards of Luzon as TD DODONG lingers out over the South China Sea.

TD 05W/DODONG shall continue moving NW and shall be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow afternoon, 10 June and shall threaten Pratas Island. It is forecast to cut through Pratas Island sometime in the morning of 11 June and shall sharply turn North to NNE moving inland into Southeastern China. Forecast models indicate a landfall near Shantou and Haojiang, China during the night of 11 June. Rapid dissipation is expected afterwards.
